Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi "eduroam")
Within the university, network access via Wi-Fi is possible at various locations or areas via the eduroam network, so that good Wi-Fi coverage can be offered. eduroam® also provides free access to thousands of Wi-Fi hotspots worldwide.
Livestream from lecture halls
With "Livestreams", teaching events (in the lecture theatre) can be broadcast online for students in real time. Lecturers can simply start the transmission themselves using the keypad on the lectern. All livestreams are made available on Leipzig University's teaching and learning platform (Moodle).
Operating system update with the Microsoft Windows Update for computers not administered by the URZ
Operating systems (Windows, MacOS, Linux) must be protected by regularly installing security updates. Members of the University of Leipzig can connect their Windows PC to the update service of the URZ here. The computer centre provides a Microsoft Windows Update, which is a simple way to keep Windows, but also many Microsoft programmes, up to date.
Printing in the PC pools
Various black-and-white and colour laser printers are available at several locations in the Neues Augusteum, in the seminar and lecture hall building. The use of the b/w laser printers and the colour printers is subject to a charge.
Service Desk (First-Level Support)
The service desk of the Leipzig University Computer Centre (URZ) is the central contact point for all enquiries concerning the services offered by the URZ. Thus, the service desk acts as a link between the users and the specialist departments of the URZ. Enquiries that cannot be answered conclusively immediately are recorded in the service desk and forwarded to the respective specialist departments of the URZ and answered by them.
Uni-Login
The Uni-Login is the user ID that gives members and guests of Leipzig University access to various services such as the use of the personal university email account, WLAN use or certain e-learning services. To gain access to IT services with your university login, you must activate it for the first time.
Video conferencing with Skype for Business
The Skype for Business video conferencing system is a communication tool that combines chat, telephone and video conferencing with other functions. Synchronous, location-independent collaboration scenarios can be organised via Skype for Business.
VPN access to the university network
Various services and offers of Leipzig University can only be used if you are within the University's network. In order to access these services from home or on the road, you need a so-called VPN connection to connect to the university network from outside.You need a valid university login to dial into the university network via VPN. You can choose between simple dial-in via the web browser using web VPN or full access using the AnyConnect client.
Wi-Fi for events
For events such as meetings or conferences on campus, the URZ offers guests and participants access to the University's Wi-Fi. No user account is required for use; access is granted on the basis of the event by means of a password.
