With the ROOTS project, the University Computer Centre is working on expanding the KMI project to include non-profit organisations (GWO). The aim is to provide GWOs with sustainable support for value-oriented and participatory digital transformation through the use of artificial intelligence.
Project description
Project approach
As part of the KMI (artificially and humanly intelligent) competence centre, sustainable structural change in the region is supported by building up expertise in the use of AI methods. The use of artificial intelligence opens up opportunities for companies to implement innovative forms of work and develop new business models as well as more efficient and humane work processes. Non-profit organisations face particular challenges in this regard. Economic pressure due to public funding often runs counter to the values of social organisations, while a lack of resources and expertise in the area of digitalisation increases the disadvantages of CSOs compared to profit-oriented companies in the battle for skilled workers. A holistic approach to transformation is crucial in order to provide sustainable support to social enterprises, in which both the organisation and the technology as well as the interacting individuals with their skills and values are considered. To ensure this, ROOTS develops concepts and methods that ensure that organisational development is in line with the values and principles of organisations oriented towards the common good and focuses on the participatory involvement of employees, as only collaborative decisions can contribute to the success of the digital transformation and strengthen the organisation.
Project objective
The aim is sustainable organisational development through participatory, value-oriented transformation, including the implementation of digital tools and transfer to other GWO. In particular, they should be empowered to use digital opportunities for their organisational and sustainability goals and be strengthened by improving their autonomy of action. By creating attractive working conditions and sustainably establishing value-based participation processes, GWO should gain an advantage in the competition for qualified employees.
Realisation
- Practical design science research approach
- Development of concepts and methods for digital and participatory organisational development for GWO
- Development of an open source participation platform to design and enable participation in transformation processes
