As part of the Base4NFDI project, service stewards are deployed to support cooperation between the NFDI consortia, the partner organisations and the sections and their working groups that have joined forces to develop basic services. The aim is to ensure smooth interaction between all stakeholders in all development phases in order to maximise the accuracy of fit and acceptance of the resulting basic services.

Project description

Project approach

The Base4NFDI project is part of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), which has set itself the goal of creating a framework for an interdisciplinary, shared research data space by collecting, organising and making information available in accordance with the FAIR principles. In Base4NFDI, the consortia and partner institutions are working together across disciplines to develop basic services for the RDM that are common to all or most of the consortia. The aim is to achieve seamless and smooth utilisation of research data management services within and outside the NFDI. Service stewards support this service development process at all stages of development. They have been established to ensure smooth interaction between the service development teams, the NFDI sections, the working groups formed within them, the consortia involved and the partner organisations involved in the development of a service. They also form an interface to the users of the services. In the "Federated Access" profile area, the service steward primarily supports projects dedicated to the topic of federated identity and access management with the aim of enabling standardised access to data, services and computing resources in the FDM area.

Project objective

The task of the service stewards is to support the specialist groups, participating consortia and partner organisations in the development, rollout and integration of basic services and to ensure smooth interaction. The aim is to support all participants in the development and introduction processes of the resulting basic services in such a way that the basic services are as customised, long-term usable and compatible as possible and are accepted in the communities. To ensure this, applications are closely monitored from the application stage through the three phases of initiation, integration and ramp-up. The principles and objectives of professional IT service management form the guidelines for working with the project teams.

Realisation

Regular support meetings with projects Presence in the NFDI sections for early involvement in project ideas Networking meetings between the various service stewards and thus also between the projects Regular analyses during project implementation on the basis of IT service management.
