User certificate
The service offers all employees of Leipzig University the issuance of a personal user certificate (so-called digital ID). The user certificate is a personal digital identity, which is offered via the service "TCS" (Trusted Certificate Service) of the European research network GÉANT and is provided by the external provider Sectigo. You need the user certificate to encrypt or digitally sign e-mails.

The service provides users with:
- Support with the application process through detailed instructions
- Automatic or manual identity check within Leipzig University
- Issue of an "advanced certificate" (p.12 certificate)
- the certificate is issued to an e-mail address that is assigned to you as a person
- validity period of 2 years
- Assistance and information on the process and blocking options in the event of misuse
- Support for secure storage of the certificate
- Instructions for importing the certificate

REQUIREMENTS
The use of the service requires compliance with the following regulations:
- For all services of the University Computer Centre, the IuK usage regulations of the University Computer Centre of the University of Leipzig apply in principle. Misuse of services of the University Computer Centre may lead to the termination of the usage permit and, if applicable, to criminal proceedings.

Delimitation
The “User Certificate” service offers you the application and authentication as well as the issuing of a user certificate. This is to be distinguished from setting up a digital signature under e-mail, PDF and Microsoft Word. For this purpose, we offer you the separate service “Digital Signature”.
