Digital signature
A digital signature replaces your manual signature online with which you can, for example, privatise your e-mails and PDFs. With a digital signature, the person who sends a signed e-mail guarantees that the e-mail was written by him or her and was not changed during transmission.
Operating system update with the Microsoft Windows Update for computers not administered by the URZ
Operating systems (Windows, MacOS, Linux) must be protected by regularly installing security updates. Members of the University of Leipzig can connect their Windows PC to the update service of the URZ here. The computer centre provides a Microsoft Windows Update, which is a simple way to keep Windows, but also many Microsoft programmes, up to date.
Security software for workstations
To protect against viruses, the URZ offers all members of the University of Leipzig the opportunity to protect their end devices with anti-virus software. The security software Sophos Antivirus from Sophos is available to members of the UL for this purpose.
User certificate
The service offers all employees of Leipzig University the issuance of a personal user certificate (so-called digital ID). The user certificate is a personal digital identity, which is offered via the service "TCS" (Trusted Certificate Service) of the European research network GÉANT and is provided by the external provider Sectigo. You need the user certificate to encrypt or digitally sign e-mails.
