It is now possible to easily stream events from 15 lecture theatres on the Augustusplatz and Jahnallee campuses to the public. Lecturers can decide directly in the lecture theatres whether they want to broadcast their event internally only or also publicly. The University Computer Centre provides public streams on its website at www.urz.uni-leipzig.de/streams. There is a separate stream produced by the Centre for Media Production for special events such as matriculations and university celebrations. This enables guests of Leipzig University to participate online in lecture series, conferences and panel discussions, for example. The AVT service guarantees high sound quality, which is essential for good comprehensibility. The e-learning team is responsible for public streaming. The new solution is also available to faculties, reduces personnel costs, gives speakers more flexibility and increases reach. At the same time, data sovereignty remains with the university.

Lectures from various lecture theatres have been streamed since the winter semester 2021/2022. The streams are primarily designed to follow lectures and can be accessed via the e-learning platform Moodle. During the coronavirus pandemic, around 100,000 viewers per semester used this option - currently around 50,000 still do. Until now, special events could only be streamed via external platforms by the Centre for Media Production at great technical and personnel expense.
