Instructions

Use the individual instructions to set up full access to the university network on your terminal device using the VPN software (AnyConnect).

You can use a WebVPN connection for access-restricted web offers of Leipzig University. Access is possible directly via a browser and authentication with your university login. Access via WebVPN is only possible until 1 January 2023. Please use the VPN client from then on at the latest.

FAQ

In principle, anyone with a university login is entitled to use VPN access. When dialling in, always use the entire login, i.e. @uni-leipzig.de , @medicine.uni-leipzig.de or @studserv.uni-leipzig.de with the corresponding password.

Each user is assigned a private IP address the first time they dial in with the AnyConnect client. This IP address is permanently linked to the university login, so that this IP address is assigned to the login every time it is dialled in. No one else can be assigned this IP address.

This private IP address is used for communication within the university networks. This can be used, for example, to set up activations in firewalls or similar. If connections are set up that leave the university network, an address conversion to public IP addresses of the university takes place (NAT). Here, several private IP addresses use the same public IP. A unique assignment is therefore not possible outside the university.

1-Standard-Uni (Recommended Profile)

The recommended standard profile 1-Standard-Uni connects your terminal device to the university network and you can access the university's resources: Intranet, scanner, printer, server, PC workstation in the office, internal services of the university library.

The data traffic to these services is routed via the VPN connection. Applications that do not directly access the university's services are not transmitted via the university's network (e.g. streaming or social media).

If you are unable to access a service when using this profile, please use the second special profile.

2-Special-All

The special profile 2-Special-All additionally allows all traffic to be routed through the University's network, including private use such as audio or video streaming or social media, if applicable.

The option is used for the use of services that have been explicitly enabled for UL members and require an IP address from the University's network, such as database or publishing services licensed by the University Library.

Therefore, please only use the profile if you really need these services in order to avoid unnecessary data volume for the University's network.

No. With the VPN client, a VPN connection on two devices in parallel is not possible.
